How are signs divided?
A star sign depends on which date range the birthday falls in, e.g. Mar 21–Apr 19 is Aries. This tool uses the common boundaries. The Chinese zodiac follows the lunar year in a 12-year cycle (Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig); since Chinese New Year shifts, Jan–Feb birthdays use that year’s New Year as the cutoff.

Are the date boundaries accurate?
It uses the most common boundaries (e.g. Aquarius 1/20–2/18). Sources may differ by a day on cusps; if born on a cusp, check the solar term for that year.
Why can the animal be “off by a year”?
The Chinese zodiac starts at Chinese New Year, which floats between late Jan and mid Feb. If born before that year’s New Year, you belong to the previous animal; this tool estimates by calendar year and notes it.
