What can this tool do?
Oversized GIFs are the most common reason uploads fail on social platforms. This tool shrinks them four ways: trimming frames, scaling down each frame, tuning quality to cut encoding redundancy, plus trimming blank frames and enabling dithering to reduce banding. The before and after sizes are shown side by side with the percentage saved, and everything runs locally in your browser.
FAQ
Why are GIFs so much bigger than videos?
GIF only supports lossless palette-indexed colour and stores every frame in full, whereas formats like MP4 use inter-frame prediction and record only what changed. For the same animation, MP4 is often a tenth the size or less. If the platform allows it, a video format is far more efficient.
What if it is still large at the lowest quality?
Look at frame rate and width: GIF size grows roughly in line with frame count and pixel count. Dropping to about 10 fps and 50% width often cuts the file to a quarter with almost no visible difference. If it still exceeds the limit, the animation is simply too complex — use a video format instead.
