Solution animation · compound growth
Year 1: balance 22,952.34 (contributed 22,000, interest 952.34)
How is it calculated?
Each period’s earnings are added to the principal and earn interest next period. The tool converts the chosen compounding frequency into an equivalent monthly growth, then adds each end-of-month contribution, accumulating monthly and summarizing yearly. Lump-sum FV = P·(1+r/n)^(n·t); contributions accrue as an annuity.
FAQ
How are monthly contributions handled?
Each addition is made at month end and compounds from then on, so later contributions earn less. It accumulates monthly for a realistic result.
What rate should I use?
Use your expected annual return: money-market ~1.5–2%, bonds ~3–4%, equity index ~7–10% long term (volatile, not guaranteed). Estimates only; investing involves risk.
