How do I read a cron expression?
Standard cron has 5 fields: minute(0-59) hour(0-23) day(1-31) month(1-12) weekday(0-7, 0/7=Sun). `*`=every, `*/n`=step, `a-b`=range, `a,b`=list. For example `0 9 * * 1-5` means “9:00 every weekday (Mon–Fri)”.
FAQ
Why do some cron expressions have six or seven fields?
Standard cron has five fields (minute hour day month weekday); some systems prepend a seconds field making six. This tool parses the common five-field form, so if yours starts with a seconds field, drop it and try again.
Should the weekday be 0 or 7 for Sunday?
Both are accepted by most implementations, and this tool parses 0 to 7, treating 0 and 7 as Sunday.
What happens when both day-of-month and day-of-week are set?
In most cron implementations they are combined with OR: it runs when either matches. So 0 9 1 * 1 fires on the 1st of every month and every Monday. Expressing AND is not something cron can do, so you need an extra check inside your script.
Are the next 10 run times in my local timezone?
Yes, based on the timezone of the device you are viewing on. Times will differ in another timezone, which matters if the job actually runs on a server whose timezone differs from yours.
Can it schedule anything faster than a minute?
No. A minute is the finest granularity cron offers. For second-level scheduling use systemd timers, a serverless function or a dedicated scheduler.
